Struchkov Prize Association

Two-sided-logo

Struchkov Prize Association is a non-profit organization established to honor the memory of a prominent Russian scholar and crystallographer Yuri T. Struchkov. The Association aims to promote excellence in structural science and to recognize young talented individuals working in the fields of chemistry, crystallography, physics, materials, and related sciences. The Association conducts an annual scientific competition among young Russian scientists working in the described fields and organizes international conferences. The Association is supported by individuals, non-profit organizations, and corporations.

Yuri Struchkov Centennial Collection: Advances in Structural Chemistry and Crystallography

We are happy to announce that the journal Structural Chemistry is inviting submissions to the Yuri Struchkov Centennial Collection.

Additional details are available.

Submission Deadline: June 30, 2026.

Many thanks to Dr Robert R. Fayzullin, Laboratory of Diffraction Research Methods,
Arbuzov Institute of Organic and Physical Chemistry, 8 Arbuzov Street, Kazan 420088, Russian Federation, for spearheading these efforts.

First IUCr STrUCHKOV PRIZE AWARDED

September 2023. The inaugural IUCr Struchkov Prize was awarded at the 26th IUCr Congress in Melbourne (August, 2023) to Robert Fayzullin of Arbuzov Institute of Organic and Physical Chemistry, Kazan, Russia, for his work on the real-space interpretation of chemical bonding by combining one-electron potentials and associated force fields derived from high-resolution X-ray diffraction data.

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS OPEN NOW

The International Union of Crystallography continuously accepts Nominations for the Second IUCr Struchkov Prize for small molecule crystallographers, which will be awarded at the International Congress of Crystallography in Calgary in 2026.
We encourage the eligible candidates to participate and, whenever possible,  spread the word among  fellow crystallographers about the possibilities of self-nominations or nominations of their colleagues for the first International Struchkov Prize.

MEETING HISTORY

The first meeting of the association took place in 2007 in Chicago. This meeting titled “Structural methods in chemistry, biology and medicine” attracted 24 participants from Canada, Russia, Switzerland, and USA.

The 2nd Struchkov Meeting  took place at the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University) in Moscow, Russian Federation in November 2018. More than 40 participants from England, Russia, USA converged for a four-day event.

The 3rd Struchkov Meeting was hosted virtually by the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University) in Moscow, Russian Federation in November 2021.

Major change in the Struchkov Prize administration

We are happy to announce that starting with 2021, Struchkov Prize will be awarded by the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr) on a triannual basis. The award will be presented to three individuals (under 35-years of age) working in the area of small-molecules crystallography or closely related areas. There are no geographical or language restrictions for the applicants. The new international nature of the Struchkov Prize reflects Prof. Yu.T.Struchkov’s tireless work to establish scientific collaborations transcending national borders.

The international version of the Struchkov Prize was made possible by a generous initial member donations to the IUCr. The award will be funded by the interest accumulated on this investment and by future members’ donations. We hope that you will keep the tradition alive and continue contributing to the IUCr Struchkov Prize fund in the future. We also hope that you will promote Struchkov Prize by nominating your friends and colleagues eligible for the Prize or perhaps by suggesting to them to self-nominate themselves. The details about the new reincarnation of the Prize can be found on the Struchkov Prize page on the IUCr web site (https://www.iucr.org/iucr/struchkov-prize). On the same page you will also find a button which allows to make contributions to the IUCr Struchkov Prize fund.

Please, contact Alex Yanovsky (ayanovsk@gmail.com) if you have any questions.
